VidFrames started with a screenshot
I had a video with one decent moment in it, and the only way to keep it was to screenshot the player. Which is a terrible way to take a photo. You get the pause icon, the timeline, whatever resolution the screen happens to be, and another round of compression for good measure.
So I built something that pulls the actual frame out of the file. Same resolution as the video. No UI in the way. Not a screenshot.
Open a clip from your phone, scrub until you land on the still you want, then step frame by frame if you need to be precise. Save that one picture, or mark a range and export every frame, every Nth frame, or a still every few seconds.
That’s also how range export came about. One still is usually enough. Sometimes you want the whole burst. Unsurprisingly, that’s the bit that saves the most time.
Images come out as lossless PNG or WebP, at the video’s original size, and drop straight into Photos under Pictures/VidFrames. Nothing leaves the device.
